Why Knoxville

Check out all the great things happening in the Knoxville Community School District

Welcome to the Knoxville Community School District! If you’re visiting us for the first time, allow us to introduce ourselves.
We are home to more than 1,700 students. We’re located in a thriving community in Marion County, the birthplace of the famous Knoxville Raceway and beautiful Lake Red Rock. We’ve become a great district in our region, with many families moving into our area or choosing us through open enrollment due to the quality of the local public schools.
Ours is a school district committed to ensuring a culture of excellence for every student. And in the 2017-18 school year, that commitment has translated into some incredible results.

Meeting ambitious goals in math, reading and science

Each year, we establish several key learning goals. Based on Iowa Assessments scores, our students exceeded our goals set in three core subject areas.

Helping students make good choices

Founded bullying cases were cut in half this year, in-school suspensions are down more than 100 from two years ago and out-of-school suspensions dropped by 18 percent. The 2017-18 school year saw the fewest number of district expulsions in the last six years. These improvements reflect our commitment to the social-emotional health of all our students.

Encouraging student participation

The number of high school students involved in co-curricular activities is up 10 percent over the past year—and 15 percent over the past three years!

Outstanding opportunities for kids

Knoxville students can explore their interests in a variety of subjects, including a Construction Trades class that partners with Habitat for Humanity to build a home each year in our community. They can also take auto mechanics, advanced manufacturing and experience a number of leadership and career opportunities through our fantastic community partnerships.
One example is the Career Boot Camp, in which students are introduced to the field of healthcare through the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics.
Our schools benefit from these strong community partnerships, providing students with a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences. KCSD’s list of community partners is as robust as any district in central Iowa!

And that’s just the beginning

We’re laser focused on building life skills, career development and good mental health for our students. We are making great progress as a district community, thanks largely to our committed staff and student body. We’ve focused on action steps that include:

  • Summer school
  • Individual intervention programs
  • Professional development for all staff members
  • Instructional coaching

We will continue employing these action steps as we build on our success moving forward. Our students have proven themselves to be engaged and active learners!
Our staff members strive each day to create a culture in which we demonstrate compassion for all. We want every student to feel safe, comfortable and valued every time they walk through the doors of a KCSD school building.
We also want our children to experience academic rigor at every grade level. That’s why KCSD is striving to become a leader in 21st century learning. Panther students problem solve, persevere and produce. They are learning the skills necessary to become contributing members of the community.

Come join us for the adventure!
