Computer Use Guidelines

Computer
Use Priority List:
* First priority given to required class assignments
* Second priority given to non-required class assignments (i.e., extra-credit
projects)
* School appropriate surfing (After school only)
Computer Use Requirements:
* Technology license must be displayed at all times when operating school
computers.
* Computer must be checked out to the student using the computer.
* Computers are reserved for school-related use.
* Printing materials is prohibited without permission from Media Center staff.
* A reasonable fee may be charged for recreational and/or excessive printing
requests
* The Media Center staff reserves the right to view your computer for appropriateness
of materials.
Study Hall:
* A Media Center pass from the teacher assigning the work, plus a pass from
the Study Hall supervisor are required for computer use.
* The Priority List indicates computer usage. Scheduled classes have first
priority.
* Computers will be assigned to students by the Media Center staff.
* The Media Center staff reserves the right to limit computer use when Media
Center expectations are not followed.
After School:
* The computer lab is open from 3:05- 3:30 Mon. - Thurs. (unless a Faculty
Meeting is scheduled)
* The Priority List indicates computer usage.
* Chat rooms, Instant Messenger, Email, and downloading are considered inappropriate
use.
* Computers will be assigned to students by the Media Center staff. Technology
license must be displayed.
* The Media Center staff reserves the right to limit computer use when Media
Center expectations are not followed.
Examples of Inappropriate Use:
(Any item in this list will result in the loss of student technology license)
* Chat Rooms, Instant Messenger, any other email or message system
* Downloading or installing programs/ games
* Entering Internet contests, surveys, advertisements (i.e., banners on Ask
Jeeves)
* Inappropriate language
* Internet gaming sites
* Only games with specific educational value permitted
* Recreational surfing during school hours
* Changing the appearance or settings of the computer (i.e., desktop background,
screen saver, icons, toolbars)
