You will be working in small groups to work on acting skills, creating costumes, scenery, singing, stage movement, and creating a play for family and friends on Friday night. This program was specifically selected by the GovernorÕs STEM Advisory Council to get kids excited about learning. iExploreSTEM festivals are a series of hands-on science, technology, engineering and math. The theme is Shine Bright, so students are asked to wear bright, neon clothing, jewelry or anything else neon you can find.  Please help this cause by attending the dance on Friday! 6th graders should not feel left out, the 6th Grade Fun Night is also Friday, and if youÕd like to help with the cause you may bring your donation that night to add to the fundraiser. á Students are invited to attend the iExploreSTEM festival in Pella, Iowa! This program was specifically selected by the GovernorÕs STEM Advisory Council to get kids excited about learning. iExploreSTEM festivals are a series of hands-on science, technology, engineering and math. You will be able to choose from the different activities and different areas of interest. This is open all the seventh through ninth graders students and will be held on April 2^nd from 6:45-8:00p.m. at the Graham Conference Center at Central College. To start off the night, there will be snacks and a short introduction before the parents and children go on to their own activities. For students there will be a variety of exhibits with fun filled activities and learning experiences put on by companies in surrounding areas. The parents, on the other hand, will be learning more about how to encourage their children in the STEM fields and will be able to ask questions to a knowledgeable panel.

It is Book Fair week at KMS -- Reading is our Thing this week in the Media Center as we celebrate our favorite childrenÕs authors for this yearÕs Book Fair.

What was your favorite book as a kid? Bring your spare change in to vote for your favorite childrenÕs book in the Media Center. The money raised will help buy books for classrooms. Also, make sure to check your locker this week. You may be a winner of Locker Lotto. Every day Thing 2 will slip notes in lockers. If you find one, bring it to the Book Fair to claim your prize!

Today's trivia question: Which Dr. Seuss book is the following verse from: "And will you succeed?  Yes, you will indeed! (98 & 3/4 percent guaranteed)." We will announce the winners of today's trivia at 12:45 today to give you enough time to claim your prize at the Book Fair.

TuesdayÓs Questions and Answer: After the Once-ler finished knitting his "Thneed", he saw the Lorax come out of what object? Great job answering the trivia question!  We had so many correct answers that we drew two winners for each grade level from a hat.  The correct answer was the Lorax appeared from a tree stump. It is Book Fair week at KMS -- Reading is our Thing this week in the Media Center as we celebrate our favorite childrenÕs authors for this yearÕs Book Fair. Stop in this week to check out the fair, vote for your favorite childrenÕs book, and maybe see Thing 1 and Thing 2!

The money raised will help buy books for classrooms.

á The 6^th grade did not take their trip to Sleepy Hollow today because of the snowstorm and late start to our school day today.  Their field trip to Sleepy Hollow has been rescheduled for Monday, February 25. However, there is another snow event in the forecast for Monday.  So, IF THERE IS A LATE START OR NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, then the date of our field trip to Sleepy Hollow will be Monday, March 4, 2013.

á Today we will be on a one-hour early dismissal schedule.  9^th period will be cut short and be ready to start the assembly at 2:00 in the auditorium.  We will not have SPRINTS.   For Thursday we will also be on a one-hour early dismissal schedule because of an awards assembly. á Our final numbers from the fall fundraiser are in.  We did not raise enough money to have our party.  However, we did raise approximately $8000.  Your teachers have been given the amounts from our fall fundraiser.  They have been asked to get ideas to Mr. McNeill about what they would like to purchase for your classes.  Your input is needed.  Your teachers can share with you the amount of funds your class received.  Your MGL teachers were also given a portion of the proceeds.

The state qualifiers are Matt, CodyRay, Joe, Mansel, Cameron and Zach.

á Registrations for Winter Driver Education are available at the Communication Corner. They need to be returned to the KMS office TODAY. Check with Mr. Grimm if you have any questions.

á We will have a student advisory meeting in the media center tomorrow morning and Friday, February 8 at 7:30 AM.   The meeting will be held in the media center and the agenda topic is the upcoming dance on the 8th.

á January PE activity calendars are due today for Day 2 students in periods 4-9. Calendars are due Monday for all students in Day 1 PE classes. Calendars are due Tuesday for students in Day 2 PE classes in periods 1-3.

á Knoxville Little League 2013 registration forms are available at the Communication Corner. Registrations will be held on Thursday, February 7 and Saturday, February 9 at the Cobblestone Hotel behind Fareway.

á The TC shooters are a trap shooting team who are inviting boys and girls in grade 6 to 12 to join them. There is an information paper at the communication corner with information about a sign-up session on Saturday, February 9.

á Congratulations to the 7th Grade Girls basketball team in their games at Newton on Thursday.  The Panthers split their games with the Cardinals.  The A team trailed most of the game but hung with the Cardinals, taking the lead in the final two minutes in the game.  The Panthers played great defense and protected the ball to hold on for a 23-21 win.  The B team lost and the C team picked up another win, leading early and holding off a run in the 4th quarter to win 9-8.

á Good luck to the 7th and 8th grade girlÕs basketball teams as they finish their season tonight against Pella.  The 7th grade plays here at KMS while the 8th grade takes to the road

á Basketball season is ALMOST over.  Finish the season with a burst of energy!!!!!  Take a nice break when it is finished!!  With all of this really cold weather and snow, it's hard to believe SPRING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.  Middle school girls' track will start in about a month.  Just in case we need to order additional sweats or uniforms, we need to have an idea of how many girls are interested in participating in middle school girls' track.  Please pick up a track sign-up form in Miss Kuntz's room or outside Mr. Timm's room. Physical forms, code of conduct forms, and emergency contact cards can be picked up at the school office or outside Mr. Timm's room.

á Congratulations to the 7th grade boyÕs basketball team on their games against Chariton yesterday. The A squad put the hammer down on the Chargers early and then coasted to a 50 - 16 win. The B squad led throughout the game and ended with a 20 - 12 victory. There will be no practice today but remember, Monday's practice will be at 6:30 in the morning.

á Congratulations to the 8th grade boyÕs basketball team on their two wins against Chariton last night.  The A game score was 64-37 and the B game score was 22-15.  Practice today is from 6-7:00 pm and is optional.
